You'll Never Get Out of This Maze

Not to sound like a pretentious asshole, but there are so many people out there who base their musical tastes on the views of other people around them, along with the iTunes top 10 songs list. Granted, there a lot of talented artists whose music gets played throughout the world. That being said, there's a lot of bullshit out there. Tons of people who have the talent, work ethic, and motivation to get their funky grooves out to the masses are lost in the void, eventually surrendering to the flow of the music companies' desire to exploit 14 year old girls and their newly found sexual desires.

As an introduction to my success as a "blogger", I am a 21 year old college student who enjoys the vibes emanating from musicians ranging from Phish to Lil Wayne to The Beatles to Daft Punk. I grew up listening to Classic Rock, eventually discovered the best band ever to step onto a stage in Phish, and have evolved into a fan of all types of music (with the exception of Country). Shinichi Osawa is currently holding my auditory attention with his unique use of the magical tool that technology has provided us with in the computer. I hope you enjoy reading this blog and will be patient with my struggles to figure out how this mysterious process of blogging works.

I'll leave you with a video of an amazing rock performance at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, as well as a link to one of my favorites live shows of all time. The video is of a cover of The Yardbirds' song "Train 'Kept a Rollin'" by Metallica, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Flea, and Ron Wood. The show is from one of Phish's infamous New Year's Eve shows. Always a great time when you combine Phish's antics with one of the biggest parties of the year, but add in Madison Square Garden and the result is a concert that Rolling Stone called one of the Top Ten concerts of the '90s. To quote the motto of Phish's 2003 festival, "It", my "Intent is All For Your Delight".

Just to close out, this will not exclusively be a music blog. I will also post on whatever's currently on my mind about what's going on in my tiny slice of this universe. I'd just like to give a shout out to Boston University and Miami (Ohio) University for the unforgettable thriller of a NCAA Frozen Four Championship game that they played last night. With only a couple minutes left, down two goals, BU pulled their goalie and ended up tying the game with only 17 seconds remaining. They ended up winning on a heartbreaking deflection in overtime. You've really got to give both teams all the credit in the world and you have to feel bad for Miami. It really is a shame that more people don't follow hockey as it really is one of the most exciting sports out there. Definitely make sure to check out the Stanley Cup Playoffs which are coming up soon. Finally, I'll give my friend Jay credit for this one but if you've never gotten into Stevie Wonder, go out and buy the album Innervisions. It's unbelievable that a blind man can create such funky, soulful music.
